The Bartered Bride at Chateau Liteň : the opera event of summer 2026

In 2026, the Jarmila Novotná Festival enters its fifteenth season, and—as befits such a jubilee—it will celebrate in truly grand style.

The main project of the season will be a gala open-air performance of The Bartered Bride, taking place on Saturday, August 29, 2026. This production, tailored specifically to the chateau grounds, will feature the Orchestra and Chorus of the National Theatre together with leading opera stars.

Sharing one stage will be outstanding figures of today’s operatic scene—Kateřina Kněžíková and Adam Plachetka, joined by Daniel Matoušek, Raman Hasymau, Lukáš Bařák, Tamara Morozová, Jan Hnyk, and Jarmila Vantuchová. The performance will be conducted by Robert Jindra.

This exceptional open-air musical evening will be enhanced by video mapping by Michal Caban, illuminating the historic courtyard of Chateau Liteň and underscoring the festive character of the entire event. Audiences will hear the most famous arias from The Bartered Bride in a compact ninety-minute version, presented in a relaxed open-air atmosphere against the backdrop of Baroque château architecture.

Once again this year, the enduring pillars of the Jarmila Novotná Festival will also be present at Liteň Château.
